We were approached by Backyard Cafe of Lewes, East Sussex. Based in the historic Needlemakers building in the centre of the town, and surrounded by many independent retailers - Backyard are a Cafe by day, and a cocktail bar on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Working in conjunction with our sister company, Studio S&H, we were briefed to capture still life cocktail photos, and a series of story-telling photos that showed off their locally foraged and sourced produce that go into each of their cocktails.
These were to be used on their new website, on social media, local advertisements, and on directory listings.
Responding to the brief, we got to know the ethos behind Backyard, and their local produce. Wanting to showcase the story behind this, we produced an in depth call sheet that would showcase the artful drink making of their mixologist, and a series of diptych photos that would showcase the core foraged ingredient next to the finished drink and key spirit.
After developing the concept and working with the mixologist to sourced additional props, we shot on location at the bar. To do this, we brought a small studio with us to capture cocktail photos, whilst showing the client on a monitor whilst doing so - allowing them to tweak garnishes and style it to be in-line with their natural brand ethos.
