Case Study: Sunny Beast

Brief.

As a long-time collaborator of mine, and potentially one of my first clients around the early 2010’s - Natasha Durley is a multi-media illustrator living and working from her home studio in Bournemouth, UK.

All of her work is created from her love of colour and texture - creating vibrant images inspired by the natural world.

Sunny Beast is the home of her illustrated works and acts as her storefront to sell her postage, cards, prints and the recently released washi tape with 10% of proceeds going back to conservation charities.

As part of an ongoing retainer, Natasha briefs me into capture product photography of her growing collection of illustrations.

Approach.

As the Sunny Beast store has grown in scale and popularity - with new work being produced by Natasha - we have a good working relationship where she sends me a short form brief for me to lightly develop and then shoot.

The product photography shoots are broken down into ecommerce - shooting the product in a studio off-white, and more creatively focussed scenes. These can range from dressed lifestyle scenes at a location, or colour theory-based tabletop photography - using smaller sets with cartridge paper, bespoke backgrounds and painted props to tie the theming of an illustration together with the product photography.

It’s always great to team up with Tash at Sunny Beast, and I’m such a fan of her work; having a print of hers at our home and having gifted her prints to friends.
