Case Study: Tomo Pizzeria

Brief.

Only a stone’s throw from the North London neighborhood of Crouch End, is family-owned restaurant, Tomo Pizzeria.

Owned and run by husband and wife team Ewa and Adam, Tomo is a traditional neighborhood Italian restaurant that has been operating for 16 years. With a large focus on their passion for Italian food, and Chef Adam’s love of true sourdough pizza with bubbly crusts, they’re a staple within the local area.

With a new website being produced and wanting to communicate their business across their touchpoints better visually, they reached out to me to capture restaurant photography of their offering.

Approach.

To start our project off, we had a discovery call where I was able to learn about their business and the needs of their brief. As this was their first restaurant photography shoot - I was able to guide them through the creative process and suggest a direction for us to follow on our 1/2 day session.

To give them the widest breadth within their restaurant photography, I suggested we make the most of the context of the dining room; shooting traditional food heroes of dishes with side dish and drink pairings, along with handheld plates heroes that have a team member holding a plate of food in the space - adding a human element and context to the imagery. My suggestion also included putting a portion of our session time into capturing kitchen reportage imagery of Chef Adam producing a collection of their core favourite dishes - in and around the pizza oven.

Across the session, we were able to work as a team to capture 14 different dishes as restaurant photography food heroes and handheld plate imagery, in different ratios; giving the team 80 pieces of end-imagery on top of their reportage content - showing the narrative of the kitchen producing dishes - putting their outputs to over 100.

The team was very pleased with their delivered restaurant photography and left me a glowing review. It’s been great to return to the restaurant for a follow up shoot to build on their brand story together.
