Case Study: Doisy & Dam

Brief.

Doisy & Dam is a London-based brand that produces delicious chocolate that is both fun and ethical.

Their brand is built on making a difference by creating chocolate that is free of e-numbers, completely vegan, and palm-oil free; actively pushing back on unsustainable farming practices and leading causes of deforestation. They are also one of a few companies to be B-Corp for their efforts in being a company that actively balances efficacy with profits.

Off the back of a previous dual-brand collaboration shoot with them in April, their team reached out to me to capture product photography of their new product launch, along with new imagery of part of their existing lineup - for wide use across social, website, and for use with partners and for press usage.

Approach.

Looking to their brand guidelines - I kicked off the project by learning about what makes them tick, as well as looking at trends - old and new. With a playful and vibrant identity that was already using block colours, I worked to produce concepts that built on this, and would be future-proof, not only our initial shoot - but also could be added to and expanded on to the wider range over time.

The finished brief treatment was split into conceptual product photography and lifestyle-based product photography.

For the studio portion, bespoke backgrounds were produced and colour matched to the brand colours and sprayed onto a collection of specifically sourced abstract props, and backgrounds - to be shot with crisp, hard light to accentuate the colours of the packaging.

The focus of the lifestyle shoot was to capture the products in use, within a home lifestyle environment - selecting complimentary props and furnishings that played on texture and tonality.
